Chevrolet Corvette 1953
Corvette came as a big surprise to the automotive world as it was unexpected that Chevrolet could create such an exotic car. It gave rise to a new roadster, well designed and executed with incredible features. One of the things that made the new Corvette stand out was the fiberglass body. While plastic was not a regular material back in the day, Corvette came in a full plastic body, making Chevrolet the pioneer of fiberglass construction. The fiberglass made Corvette decently lightweight and has remained in use to construct Corvette’s outer body since then.
In 1953, Corvette came at a pretty penny of $3490. However, this was more affordable than the Jaguar XK120 or a Ferrari 166. While Corvette received a lot of hype from the public, they only made 300 more of them. Yet,1953 saw the rise of the American sports car production and the debut of the most successful US nameplates.
